Blog 1: From The Color Room to Mountain Hair — Our 7-Year Journey & Exciting New Chapter

For almost 8 years, The Color Room Glenbrook has been a space of transformation, connection, and creativity. Over that time, we’ve grown into more than a salon—we’ve become a family. Every appointment has been about more than hair. It’s been about trust, confidence, and creating a place where people feel at home.

This October, we’re stepping into a bold new chapter. For one week our salon doors will close as tilers, plumbers, and electricians help us bring a new vision to life. When we re-open, we’ll do so as Mountain Hair. New name. New look. Same heart.

Our Journey So Far

December 2018 — A New BeginningWe took ownership of The Color Room, a salon with history stretching back to the 1960s. At the time, it was a small but lively space with just three staff members and a community who had loved it for decades.

2019 — Growth and Community SupportWithin our first year, we doubled in size. This wasn’t just about more chairs or more services—it was about the overwhelming support of our local mountain community. Our clients backed us, trusted us, and helped us grow into something bigger than we could have imagined.

2020–2022 — Weathering the StormsLike so many small businesses, the years of the pandemic tested us in ways we never expected. There were closures, restrictions, and constant uncertainty. But with resilience and the loyalty of our clients, we came through stronger, tighter, and more determined than ever.

2022 — The Curly Hair ChapterIn 2022, we launched our curly hair services. By investing in advanced dry-cutting techniques and Curly Girl–approved products, we opened our doors wider to every curl, wave, and coil. This was more than a service—it was a celebration of individuality.

2023–2024 — Bigger Dreams, New IdentityWith growth came vision. We knew it was time to evolve, not just in name, but in experience. Which brings us here—our biggest step yet. The transition from The Color Room to Mountain Hair.

Why the Change?

The name Mountain Hair reflects growth, strength, and individuality. It represents our commitment to lifting your salon experience to new heights while keeping us grounded in what matters most—personalised care, natural results, and a warm, welcoming space.

This renovation is about more than fresh paint and new tiles. It’s about creating a space designed for comfort, creativity, and individuality. A salon where every client—whether colour lover, curl enthusiast, or modern man—feels at home.

• Nanoplasty by FloractiveOur newest treatment, a vegan, formaldehyde-free smoothing system that restores shine, eliminates frizz, and gives long-lasting results. We’ll dive deeper into this treatment in its own blog, but we’re proud to be introducing it as part of the Mountain Hair experience.
